Invest in Your Nest – A Kitchen in Shades of Gray

Invest in Your Nest – A Kitchen in Shades of Gray

When Chris and Jenn set their wedding date for early fall, they decided it was time to Invest In The Nest and update their home, for all their family and friends to enjoy when they arrive for the big day!

“We decided to concentrate on the main level of the home such as the kitchen and dining room where everyone gathers,” says Chris.

The couple had already painted the rooms and Chris built a wood dining room table in his spare time. But, when they got to the kitchen, they decided to find a little help. The couple wanted an updated look for their somewhat plain kitchen of wood cabinets and natural stone backsplash.

“I knew that blacksplash had to go as soon as we moved in,” Jenn said.

The couple shopped around for a new backsplash and found one that is a modern day mix of glass, stone and shimmery metal, which perfectly set the tone for the new look in the kitchen! Then they brought in Furniture Fix to look at the wood cabinets to see what could be done. The Furniture group suggested having the cabinets painted for a whole new look, at a fraction of the cost of replacing them.

“The cabinets would look brand new again,” said Lisa Murdock of Furniture fix. “And we thought the new ‘shades of gray’ color palette would coordinate well with their existing dark granite countertops and stainless steel appliances!”

Painting kitchen cabinets is about a three or four day process, depending on the size of kitchen. The boxes and islands are done by hand, while the cabinet doors and drawer fronts are sprayed off-site and returned when dry. In this case, the couple chose a shade of white for the upper cabinets, with a gray glaze and a contrasting darker gray for the island.

While the cabinet were being painted, the couple had the floors sanded and restained to a slightly darker brown, also costing less then replacing them.
Jenn and Chris topped off the job with new oil rubbed hardware for the cabinets as well.

The result is a clean- looking, updated kitchen in today’s shades of gray.
“we just love it!” said Jenn. “It feels like a brand new kitchen and we love the shades of gray!”
